Update: August 5, 2005

August 5, 2005

Dear Friends,

There are only 20 days until Seeker of Stars is officially released! Its been an exciting summer!

We launched a website in June to promote Seeker of Starswww.susanfish.com Check it out to see an excerpt from the book, to find ordering information, all that kind of thing. My web guy — James Bow — is fantastic (and still speaks to me even though I believe the Internet may work by mirrors).

One other thing soon to be posted on the website is a set of discussion questions based on Seeker of Stars, which could be used by a church group, a book club or anything in between. The Bible study-related questions are set up as a six-week curriculum, using material and themes from the book as well as examining biblical stories which speak to the themes. The other discussion questions could be used by a book club. All discussion questions are available free of charge.

In late June, I signed on with a lovely literary agent, Don Pape of Alive Communications. Like me, Don is a former IVCF staffworker, but unlike me, he knows the publishing industry well, as a former publisher with WaterBrook Press/Random House as well as Cook Communications. Hes also a friend.

Don was instrumental in helping me find some kind reviewers to endorse Seeker of Stars. Their comments are also available on the website.

I bought a sparkly dress for the BOOK LAUNCH, which is being graciously sponsored by the Waterloo Public Library on Saturday September 24, 2005 from 2-4:30 p.m. Please consider yourself invited and do bring a friend or two. There will be refreshments, a reading, a chance to buy copies of the book (and get them signed!) as well as a chance to meet some cool people (and, of course to see my sparkly dress!)

In other book-related events:

  • August 28-30 — I will be in Ottawa at a Christian Booksellers Association trade show, doing my best to encourage booksellers to stock my little book. I will also be giving a reading from the book.
  • September 24 — Did I mention the launch?
  • September 25 — Word on the Street, Kitchener
  • November 18-19 — There is a very cool Christian book expo being held at Bayview Glen Church in Toronto called Good Words at which — weather permitting — we are planning a Star Party in conjunction with Seeker of Stars. Come out and do some Christmas shopping — and be amazed by Jupiter and Saturn.
  • November 24 — With local pastor/astronomer Doug Kranz, I will be speaking on the magi and the star of the original Christmas story at the Kitchener Public Library.

Other dates will follow, and will be posted at www.susanfish.com If you, your church group or your book club would like me to come to talk on themes related to the book (appreciating your spouse, dreams, spiritual directions, natural conversations about faith), please contact me.

How to Order Seeker of Stars:

Many of you have asked about this. You can order the book online (www.amazon.ca, etc.) or by calling the University of Toronto Press (1-800-565-9523 or utpbooks@utpress.utoronto.ca) but the best way to get this book is through your local book store. Ask for the book by title and also ISBN number: 0-9733632-8-2

This way is probably the easiest for you and also gets copies of the book into bookstores so other people can buy it too. It is probably easier at this point to buy it through “regular” bookstores rather than Christian bookstores, but you can try either.

Thanks so much for your support of this exciting journey. It really is a whirlwind and I am grateful to God for taking me along for the ride.

Blessings to you and yours!
Susan
