Dear Friends,
Hope you enjoyed a good summer and are settling into fall rhythms. We enjoyed our holiday on the Gaspe very much and then had a terrific time in Ottawa where I picked up my book, met with Ruth and Don (Publisher Extraordinaire and Agent of all Agents), and had an opportunity to sign books at the Christian Booksellers Association trade show. It was exciting to hear where the book was going — one woman asked me to sign a copy for her friend whose sister had recently been killed, while another person was sending it to China. I finally developed a shorthand “hook” to describe the book, after years of fumbling about. Here’s what I say: Seeker of Stars is a memoir of one of the magi which looks at what kind of person would leave family and country to go on a journey in pursuit of a star, shows what happens along the way and how God meets people in unexpected ways. I also say that it isn’t a book that is only for religious people. And, I tell them that there are FREE book club questions and Bible study curriculum corresponding with the book available on my website www.susanfish.com. (If they seem really interested, I also mention that it is the perfect Christmas gift.)
This week I had a HIGHLIGHT moment — my friend Lynn and I met for coffee and she asked me if I knew Seeker of Stars was in the window of Words Worth Books, just up the street. I did not, so we hurried, coffee in hand, to the store and there it was — front and centre, between Harry Potter (!!!) and Jane Urquhart. I went inside to thank them and they had me sign all the copies they had, and said the books were selling well.
Another highlight has been the way people are in this with me — last week my friends MaryBeth and her daughter Kate joined Megan and I making sparkly star-shaped cookies for the launch. This week, my friend Cheryl will help this craft-challenged writer to make attractive posters advertising the launch.
Ah yes, the launch — mark your calendars for
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 24 from 2-4:30 p.m. at the Waterloo Public Library (email me for directions) where we will have refreshments, a reading around 3:00 p.m., signings, mingling and buying books.
I would love to see you there.
Other Upcoming Events:
The book is currently available through Words Worth Books, Gospel Lighthouse Waterloo and Pandora Press in Kitchener, as well as on amazon.ca, and can also be ordered through your favourite bookseller.
Wishing you joy in your journey and thanking you for sharing in mine,
Susan
